National Nurse Appreciation Week
Each year, from May 6th through May 12th, we take a moment to pause and recognize the incredible impact that nurses make in our lives and in our communities during National Nurse Appreciation Week. This special week is dedicated to honoring the compassion, dedication, and strength of nurses, all qualities that are especially vital in hospice care.
At Helios Care, we are deeply grateful for the nurses in our local community and surrounding health systems, and especially for those who are part of our own Helios Care family. Every day, our nurses provide not only medical care but also comfort, dignity, education, and emotional support to patients and their families during life’s most difficult moments. The work they do cannot be overstated, it is truly a calling.

This year’s theme perfectly captures what we see in our team every single day. Nurses have always been the foundation of the healthcare system, always advocating for their patients, leading with courage, and adapting through every challenge. In hospice care, this power is reflected in the quiet strength, deep empathy, and professional excellence our nurses bring to the bedside and to the whole family.
We’re proud to recognize the many talented and passionate nurses who serve our mission in a variety of roles. Whether in direct care or in leadership, their contributions ripple throughout our organization and the communities we serve:
- Erika Morell, our Director of Nursing, brings clinical excellence and heart to every aspect of patient care and to our team.
- Ruth Blackman, Director of QAPI & Corporate Compliance, ensures we maintain the highest standards of quality and integrity, while delivering the best care to families.
- Even our newly appointed President & CEO, Joan MacDonald, is a nurse, bringing both clinical insight and strategic vision to our organization.
